Fraud Alert

Protecting Your Accounts

Fraudsters continue to target unsuspecting victims with a variety of schemes. Many of these fraud attempts seem legitimate and are very convincing.

We ask all members to be alert and never give out personal or financial information to someone you do not know via phone call, email, text, or social media.

While the credit union does everything possible to protect your accounts, if you provide sensitive information or initiate a fraudulent transaction for a fraudster, it can be extremely difficult or impossible to recover lost funds.

Common Scams

  • “Call to Cancel” Scams: You receive fake purchase alerts with a phone number to call to “Cancel” the purchase you made or that was made in your name.
  • Government Imposter Scams: Someone claims to be from the IRS or another government agency and makes threats about unpaid taxes or lost benefits unless you settle the debt immediately.
  • Bank Fraud Alerts: You receive communications that a transaction did not go through or suspicious activity on your account – usually from a random financial institution you do not have an account with.
  • Package Delivery Scams: You receive alerts that a package could not be delivered and you need to call a specific number or provide additional information.
  • Job Offer Scams: You receive a “too good to be true” job offer that pays well yet requires limited skills or experience.
  • Sextortion Scams: You’re contacted and told someone has compromising images or videos of you that they will release online if you don’t pay them immediately.
  • Family Deepfake Scams: Someone claims to be a friend or family member in immediate need of money. Deepfake voice scams can be very convincing.

Remember, scams are designed to access your personal or financial information. A key giveaway something is a scam is when the person wants you to act immediately and makes threats if you pause.
